These merchants brave the dangers of the road on their way to distant markets. This band includes porters and traders and are guarded by 2d4 2nd-level human warriors. They are generally fairly well prepared to fend off small bands of common bandits or other minor dangers.
Such encounters usually consist of soldiers in the employ of the city or in a police function and one or two of which will be a captain or commander 2 if more than 8 guards, 3 if more than Leaders are of 2nd to 5th level fighters. City Official : Such encounters will are with some minor bureaucrat such as a tax collector, customs officer, or magistrate. Rarely, such encounters are with a major official, such as prominent steward, alderman, justice, chamberlain, or major magistrate.
Major officials are always accompanied by guards 1st level fighters and one fighter 2nd to 5th level. Curfew Breakers : Rowdy citizens occasionally carouse about the city after dark. Such encounters might be with tradesmen or merchants drunk on their way home, or foolish brash youths, or any other everyday citizen out and about. Such an encounter might involve young toughs up to no good, thugs shaking down their neighbors, or even heavies in the employ of a local crimelord. These encounters can range in CR from very low—requiring only a little sword rattling to disperse some skittish vandals—to very high, depending on your needs and situation. Those eating the fruit at the grove are blessed. It is claimed by a proud fey noble 9 A hillside covered in several mushroom rings. Each ring is a different color and undamaged by the large herd beasts roaming here 10 A withered hedge covered in big red berries.
Some are delicious and some are poisonous. Many rodents live in the hedge 11 A reed-filled stream burbles through a green pasture. Faerie lights flit in the water and grass. Currently it is raining. Many fat fireflies investigate the garden 13 Towering spires of crystal grow from the moss-covered ground. Thunder and lightning herald an incoming storm. A rare herb grows here, sought for curses and poisons 15 An overgrown brook flows through a high-sided valley.
Chalk giants are carved on one side, one has a shrine to a power of the hunt 16 The edge of a sinister black bog marked by several moss-covered obelisks.
Eyes watch from the bog and a horn sounds in the distance 17 Above the surrounding forest towers a mighty oak.

For every 5 points the result of the check exceeds the DC, the fire is detected an additional feet away. Creatures that breathe smoke must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or take 7 2d6 fire damage and become poisoned for 1 minute. A stretch of grassland remains ablaze for 1d4 x 10 minutes before burning out. The satyr is quite intoxicated regardless of the time of day and has the poisoned condition.
The elves guard against intruders into their lands. A small patrol of watchmen or inexperienced soldiers is patrolling an ancient road. After hours alone in the woods, they are jumpy and nervous.
